MNS N9 and Melaka Branch _____________ next event

Sunday 27 November 2012 : re-organised visit to Berembun Forest Reserve, Negeri Sembilan.

Berembun Forest Reserve in Negri Sembilan is a secondary low land forest, and stretches from the outskirts of Seremban through to Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan. The forest reserve was gazetted a protected area during the colonial times. Its importance is due to the water catchment area that supplies Seremban water needs.

Visiting a different part of the reserve, along the Sungai Ngoi-Ngoi  is a less disturbed area and the river water is very clear after the recent rain.

Access is reasonable via it is very narrow but good tarred road, which passes by the Ngoi-Ngoi water treatment plant (which is not in operation yet) before eventually leadsing to the Orang Asli kampong.

There are about 12 houses in the Orang Asli community of the Temuan tribe. Their houses were built alongside the banks of the Ngoi-Ngoi river and right at the edge of the Berembum forest reserve.

Activities to include visit the Orang Asli, forest trekking, swimming and bird watching. We may also have a peek at the Ngoi-Ngoi water treatment plant from a distance.

Reminders  - suitable attire and footwear, packed lunch, insect repellent and leach socks if you are concerned. If you have any treats left over from Christmas, bring them along as gifts for the Asli children.
